Choose the grid
2-up gives two portrait pages side by side on a landscape sheet, 4-up a 2 by 2 grid, and so on up to 16.
Set the sheet
A4, Letter, Legal, A3, or the same size as the source page. Auto orientation turns the sheet to suit the grid.
Flow and spacing
Pages run across then down, or down then across. Margin and gap are in millimetres; borders and page numbers are optional. Every sheet redraws as you change these.
Build
Each page is embedded as a form and drawn scaled into its cell. Text stays vector and searchable.

How a page becomes a cell
Each source page is embedded into the new document as a form XObject, which is a self-contained drawing that can be placed anywhere at any scale. The tool works out the cell size from the sheet, margin, gap and grid, scales the page to fit the cell with its proportions intact, and centres it. Because the page is embedded rather than rendered, the text inside is still text: it can be searched, selected and printed at the printer's full resolution.
Pages that carry a rotation flag are placed the way they display, so a landscape scan in a portrait file comes out landscape in its cell.
What each layout is for
Two per sheet is the handout layout: slides or portrait pages side by side on landscape paper. Four and six suit review copies of long documents. Nine and sixteen produce contact sheets for checking page order or spotting blank pages in a scan. Down-then-across ordering is the one to pick when the sheet will be cut into strips, since each strip then reads in order.
This is not a booklet
A booklet needs the pages imposed in a specific order, with page 1 next to the last page, so that a folded stack reads correctly. That is a different arrangement from pages per sheet, which keeps the pages in reading order. If you need a booklet, print the output of this tool with your printer's booklet setting, or reorder the pages first with the organise tool.

01Will the text still be selectable?
Yes. Pages are embedded as vector forms, not pictures, so text is searchable and prints sharp.
02Which orientation should I pick?
Auto chooses landscape for 2, 6 and 8 per sheet and portrait for 4, 9 and 16, which matches the shape of the grid. Override it if your pages are landscape.
03Can I keep the pages at their original size?
Choose Same as the source page for the sheet size and a 2 by 1 grid gives half size pages. There is no layout that keeps full size, because two full pages do not fit on one.
04Does it make a booklet?
No. Booklet imposition reorders pages so a folded stack reads correctly. This tool keeps reading order. Print its output with the printer's booklet option if you need one.
05Can I add page numbers?
Yes. Tick the page number option and each cell gets its source page number underneath.
06Is anything uploaded?
No. The layout is built in your browser.
