The editor works best on desktop

The full editor has a lot going on: tool rail, page thumbnails, properties panel, and a big canvas. It really needs a larger screen to be usable.

For quick tasks on mobile, use one of these instead, which are built for phones:

How to edit a PDF

  1. Open your PDF. Drop the file into the editor, or click to browse. It loads on a desktop-sized screen.
  2. Pick a tool. Choose text, image, signature, shape, highlight, or the eraser from the toolbar.
  3. Make your edits. Click or drag on the page to place and adjust content. Move, resize, and restyle anything.
  4. Download. Export a flattened PDF that looks identical everywhere. Nothing uploads.

What you can do in the editor

The editor is the catch-all for edits that don't fit a single-purpose tool. Add a paragraph of text over a blank space. Drop in a logo or a scanned signature. Draw a box around a figure, highlight a clause, or cover a line with a white rectangle and type a correction on top. Reorder pages, drop in pages from another PDF, and flatten the result so it prints and displays the same on every device.

What it can't do is rewrite the original text stream in place. PDFs store text as positioned glyphs, not editable paragraphs, so the practical approach is to cover old text and type new text over it. Every mainstream browser-based editor works this way, ours included.

Common questions

Can I edit the existing text in a PDF?

You can add new text anywhere and cover old text with a white box, then type over it. True inline editing of the original text stream is limited because PDFs store text as positioned glyphs.

Can I add my signature?

Yes. Draw it, type it, or upload an image of it, then place and resize it on any page.

Can I white-out or redact content?

You can cover content with a white or black box. For true redaction that removes the underlying data, use a dedicated redaction step, since a box alone can sometimes be moved in other editors.

Why does the editor ask for a desktop screen?

Precise placement of text and shapes needs a mouse and screen space. On a phone, use the specific tools like Merge, Compress, or Rotate instead.

Does editing reduce quality?

Your added content is vector-crisp. The original pages are preserved as-is unless you flatten, which keeps visual quality identical.

Can I edit a password-protected PDF?

Not directly. Unlock the file first with our Unlock tool, then edit.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole editor runs in your browser via WebAssembly. Files never leave the device.

Is it free?

Free. Every tool, unlimited use, no signup.
